A directory harvest attack is an action that involves seeking the valid e-mail addresses that are connected to an e-mail server and adding them to a spam database. Harvesting e-mail addresses can be done either by sending messages to different possible usernames which are generated by randomly combining letters and numbers. Another method is sending messages to likely usernames like initials followed by common surnames. If the e-mail account is invalid, the server will reply ‘not found’. However if a valid e-mail account receives the message, the message doesn’t return thus the DHA program retains the e-mail address for future spamming. Spam filters are internet applications that could counteract this; consider downloading them into your computer.

Anyway, what BitTorrent is, is basically a content distribution protocol written in the Python language by Bram Cohen under open source license. It enables efficient software distribution and peer-to-peer sharing of very large files by enabling users to serve as network redistribution points. Talk about cooperation. What it does is to share bits and pieces of the file among many customers until everyone is happy with a complete download. This makes it possible to share your file with many other people without individualizing downloads. Most of files on torrent are entire movies (without splitting them up into parts) and TV shows.

Microsoft is borrowing many popular features from Firefox and Safari in the release of Internet Explorer 8. Although it is originally intended for developers, the beta is public and should be utilized with caution. In the latest release of Internet Explorer, the Safety Filter exists and an antiphishing portion of the browser. In this beta, version 8 adds malware prevention that actively scans a downloading page for some malicious codes and content. Another feature that was borrowed is Web Slices that allows you to create applets on your desktop with snippets from live websites similar with Apple Safari. After downloading Internet Explorer 8 beta and you think you don’t like it, you can click on the Emulate IE7 button to have the old version back.
