BitTorrent is an content distribution protocol that allows distribution through the internet of software and peer-to-peer sharing of large files like shows and movies. It does this by enabling users to serve as network redistribution points. The holder of the content sends it to one user who sends it to other users and they share the pieces of the download until everyone completes it. Because of this, the original server can serve many requests without using immense bandwidth. This is very efficient because it saves time; a full-length movie can arrive within a few hours and sound files within minutes.

A directory harvest attack is an action that involves seeking the valid e-mail addresses that are connected to an e-mail server and adding them to a spam database. Harvesting e-mail addresses can be done either by sending messages to different possible usernames which are generated by randomly combining letters and numbers. Another method is sending messages to likely usernames like initials followed by common surnames. If the e-mail account is invalid, the server will reply ‘not found’. However if a valid e-mail account receives the message, the message doesn’t return thus the DHA program retains the e-mail address for future spamming. Spam filters are internet applications that could counteract this; consider downloading them into your computer.

With 18 percent market share to 74 for IE by Net Application stats, Mozilla is surely a blast. And now, major websites just have to support FireFox. Apple’s safari which is available now in Windows too is third in rank with 6 percent share. Next contender is Opera saying that the browser is the single most significant piece of software made nowadays which badly needs innovation if you intend to extend the reach of the web. Having a lot of competitors and a richer web is surfacing, Microsoft knows the stakes are indeed high. And FireFox is becoming fiercer as it heightens its profile. There will be a Gran Paradiso, a 24-hour download record with FireFoz 3 set by Mozilla.

The micro-blogging site has been hit again and again by malware, the first was from a bored teen who wrote code that quickly spread all over the place, the newest was more sinister with exploit laden PDF files and exploits galore sent to click-hungry users who clicked on just about anything they can click on. Finally, some word of hope from the site’s management, they will start to roll out secure and verified accounts that might be their answer to their growing rank in the hacker hit lists of the world. This would take the place of their crazy attitude of suspending accounts they suspect are from impersonators or are infected by malware, taking control of everything the account contains as if they owned it all the time. Lawsuit after lawsuit has landed them in hot water and made them one of the biggest malware targets this day and age of the social net. continue reading »

Not quite, the new search engine may have some of the innovative concept of the cloud behind it, yet as with any other computer software, it’ll take time for the fruit to ripen (and knowing Microsoft, that’ll take a while). Microsoft has long been searching for an answer from the threat Google has been shadowing them with in the area of online advertising, a field totally ruled by the later search giant. They have tried on several occasions (heard they’re at it again) to get hold or control of Yahoo yet they have fallen short of their bullish tactics and failed to get at it fast. continue reading »

Celebrities love it and just about anybody else on the planet too, Twitter has become a big name in the social net and the micro-blogging service is being seen as the next model for the coming evolutionary step of the internet. The new form of the internet can have thousands upon thousands of companies with servers and software, forming the cloud, all having programs that allows people to interact, blog and do just about anything they could do today, simply faster. No bog monopolies and no single entity in control (well, that might not be entirely true for Google does have the biggest set of data centers the world over and it is THE search engine), on the net who says this and that with all of us in tow. continue reading »

Many of today’s internet apps are being targeted for use on the cloud where data is synced and stored for retrieval anytime of the day, wherever you may be. A good sample would be the famed Apple MobileMe system which is a way to synchronize data from all your apple gadgets all over the place saving them in the cloud allowing you to sync each and every device to keep them updated. may they be photos, videos, email and all the contents of your address book, all are saved up to the cloud where you can configure the system to save or sync them to all your devices at a specific time.

Being a blogger, you can’t help but take notes while surfing the web. It’s a great boon then, that Jjot exists and has given me a reprieve from taking my hands off the keyboards.
Jjot is a lightning fast sticky note web application filled with smart features like archiving, search, and sharing. Jjot is very easy to use and understand (which is nice when you’re tackling any new web application), but what really stands out about Jjot is its speed. Everything you do on Jjot is satisfyingly snappy, which is so refreshing in an age of bloated web apps. Granted, Jjot’s speed might not be enough to make it stand out in the already overcrowded online note-taking and todo applications, but it’s on my good list.

iGoogle, which is Google’s personalized home page has a new update where widgets on the page can now be viewed in the newest canvass view. It simply enlarges the widget to the full iGoogle window. Sixteen new and updated widgets that are promoted by Google currently support the said feature. Currently, there are around 40,000 widgets available in iGoogle. It has not stopped on displaying standard small widgets. Whats new also is the fact that the larger views will not be restricted of ways to earn from them through monetization schemes. Developers can certainly do whatever they see fit for the pages. But in the smaller view, Google does not allow advertising and other direct profit generating schemes. iGoogle’s widgets were written in the Open Social platform. So there must not be much of a problem running this on the portal page.
